8607: Nothing Worth Watching On TV.

Much has been written about the lack of Black viewers for the 2011 Academy Awards broadcast. Some columnists criticized the Whiteness of the nominees, while others believed it was simply a dearth of decent Black performances and films. Then again, would James Franco and Anne Hathaway appeal to any audience—regardless of culture? To complicate matters further, the 2011 NAACP Images Awards broadcast dropped 500,000 Black viewers versus the previous year. In this case, folks blamed assorted factors like decreased marketing for the lowered ratings. During the week that the NAACP Image Awards aired, shows luring larger Black audiences included American Idol (no duh), Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior (Forest Whitaker), Criminal Minds (Shemar Moore), CSI: Miami (um, Omar Miller?), NCIS: Los Angeles (LL Cool J) and The Good Wife (um, Michael Ealy and Michael Boatman?). Whatever happened to quality programming like The Cosby Show, The Jeffersons and Good Times?
