8376: Women’s Wit And Wisdom.

Girl talk in a MultiCultClassics Monologue…

• Comedienne Joan Rivers pulled a joke about First Lady Michelle Obama from her stand-up routine. The joke, drawing comparisons between Mrs. Obama and former First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, went like this: “We used to have Jackie O. Now we have Blackie O!” Rivers decided to dump the line, fearing she’d be deemed a racist. “I thought it was a funny complimentary joke when she first came [to the White House],” said Rivers during an interview. For Rivers to expect people to view any of her jokes as complimentary is, well, insulting.

• After over a year of postponing taking her oath as president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, the Rev. Bernice King announced she doesn’t want the job at all. The decision to step away from the rights group co-founded by her iconic father comes on the heels of SCLC internal divisions, scrutinized finances and the indictment of its former chairman on theft charges. What’s next—booking Joan Rivers as entertainment for the next SCLC convention?
