Essay 515

Bankruptcy (moral and financial) in a MultiCultClassics Monologue…

• Marion “Suge” Knight (pictured above) filed for bankruptcy to prevent losing control of Death Row Records. Yo, if you’re going to plead being broke, think about NOT releasing press photos displaying obscenely large diamond jewelry. Just a thought.

• The U.S. Commission on Civil Rights approved plans designed to protect Jewish college students from anti-Semitic harassment. The recommendations were a response to a November hearing that revealed examples of discriminatory acts allegedly taking place at schools nationwide. The commission is an independent, bipartisan federal agency with no enforcement powers. Which makes their approval of the plans potentially pointless.

• Crystal Lake, Illinois agreed to host a rowing event for the Gay Games competition in July. The decision has polarized the city’s 40,000 residents. “Make no mistake: The purpose of the Gay Games is to legitimize homosexuality and make it appear as a wholesome lifestyle choice,” wrote one critic. Another protestor said, “Crystal Lake is a G-rated place.” Guess the G doesn’t stand for gay.
